Would you like to learn how to clean your own typewriter instead of paying us to do it? Sign up for a hands-on class where you will clean your own manual typewriter.*
In 2026, DIY clinics will be scheduled on weekends, several times a month. Class times are usually starting at 10am or 1pm, but we can accommodate around your travel time if needed.
FEBRUARY CLASSES ARE FULL but March classes are now available!
Saturday, 3/7 at 10:00am or 1:00pm
Saturday, 3/14 at 10:00am or 1:00pm
Sunday, 3/22 at 1:00pm
Spaces are limited so register today!
How It Works:

1) Contact us to register for an upcoming weekend class.
2) Bring your vintage manual typewriter to the Ticka…Ticka…Ding! workshop, located near Mantorville, MN.
3) We will provide the cleaning materials and one-on-one instruction.
4) You will clean your machine using the same tools, cleaners, and degreasers that we use.
5) When it’s all clean, you and your typewriter head home and enjoy years of happy typing together!
How Long Will It Take?
It depends on the size and current condition of your typewriter, but plan on spending up to two hours at the workshop. Larger desktop machines have more surface area to clean, so they take a little longer than smaller, portable models. Those that have not been properly stored will need more time to clean.
How Much Does It Cost?
$25 per typewriter (includes cleaning supplies and up to two hours of instruction)
New 1/2″ ribbons (all-black or black/red) are available for $5.
Can I clean an electric typewriter during a DIY class?
No, these DIY classes are available for cleaning manual typewriters only. If you have an electric typewriter, Ticka…Ticka…Ding! would be happy to clean it for you (regular bench fees apply).
What If My Typewriter Needs Additional Repairs or Parts?
If your machine needs more than just a thorough cleaning, you can leave your machine with us to complete the repair. (The hourly bench fee will apply for repairs.)
*DISCLAIMER: This class is designed to share basic cleaning techniques and general guidance. Because each typewriter is unique, participants understand that results may vary. By taking part in the class, you agree that any work performed on your typewriter is done at your own discretion, and Ticka…Ticka…Ding! cannot be held responsible for any damage or issues that may arise during or after the class.
